Several days before Christmas, the Holy Spirit began talking to me about the rule and reign of Jesus in this earth. He said, “The Government Shall Be Upon His Shoulder.” One would automatically assume that the Holy Spirit was just declaring the obvious; that the Government of God would rest upon the rule and reign of Jesus, but much more was revealed to me by the Spirit.
Jesus is indeed the King of God’s Kingdom. The Government of God indeed rests upon His shoulder (Isaiah 9:6), but we, who name Jesus as Lord, are the Body of Christ. It is the responsibility of the Body to carry out the rule and reign of the Head (Jesus Christ). The church is waiting for Jesus to return to restore the Kingdom, but restoration begins with His Body. The Holy Spirit sent me to Isaiah 60 when the prophet sees a time when darkness would cover the earth, but a Light would rise upon God’s people. “And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising (V3).” This passage goes on talking about the wealth of the nations coming into the hands of God’s people. “And the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls, and their kings shall minister unto thee (V10).” “For the nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted (V12).”
The Prophet Isaiah was not talking about Jesus. He was talking about the People of God in this earth. Isaiah 61 continues in this same theme. “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me (V1).” This passage talks about the favor being upon God’s anointed. Who are they? They are the Body of Christ, Christians (Little Anointed Ones). They are called “trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified . . . and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations. (V3-4).” “All that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the LORD hath blessed . . . so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations (V9,11).”
After all these passages, the Holy Spirit says that As ambassadors of God’s Kingdom, we uphold the Government of God as we obey our orders from King Jesus. In our obedience, the Blessing of the Lord will bring great wealth to the nations, without toil (Proverbs 10:22). We won’t even have to make a name for ourselves, God will make our names great (Genesis 12:2). God has placed upon the Body of Christ, the welfare of the nations. That is why the Lord told King Solomon, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land (II Chronicles 7:14).” The responsibility of the Government of God may rest upon the shoulders of Jesus, but it is carried out by the Body Of Christ for the prosperity of the nations. We must restore all things back to God before the return of our King. Doing so requires that we do God’s will and not our own. It is a life of self sacrifice for the salvation of the world. It’s the life that Jesus lived, and commanded us to follow. Now is the time to obey that command.by
